Seminar, theatrical production
Designing to fit the theme
Designing for Gem Rock's production of Seminar presented a unique challenge. The script itself lacked visually stimulating elements that could easily be translated into art. Knowing this, I decided to take an unconventional approach to designing the advertising materials and program for the show.
My process began with creating an initial graphic inspired solely by the script. This design, featuring a composition book, was used in early advertising campaigns, which were launched before the show opened and even before the creative team had finalized their vision.
As the production evolved, the director made a unique choice to cover the stage floor with crumpled paper throughout the performance. This striking visual element inspired me to redesign the final graphic, which was used in most of the show's advertising and on the cover of the program. The crumpled paper became a central theme in all design materials, creating a cohesive and powerful visual identity for the production.
