Robe Law Firm Branding
Professional, Modern, and Blue
When Robe Law Firm approached me for a rebranding, they had two main requests: create a professional look and ensure the logo featured a specific shade of blue. With minimal direction, I began the process as I do with all my projects—sketching. For efficiency and flexibility, I chose to sketch digitally, which allowed me to explore negative space as a potential focal point in the logo’s design. I quickly generated around 15 unique concepts, refining them down to 8 for the client’s review.
From these, Robe Law Firm provided more specific feedback: they liked the text in sketch 6, the overall shape of sketch 7, but wanted to replace the traditional column and scales with a more abstract design within the shield. This clarity guided the next phase of problem-solving—creating an abstract yet professional visual that felt clean and sophisticated, essential in the legal industry.
I experimented with intricate, filigree-inspired designs but found they cluttered the logo and detracted from the professionalism. After several iterations, I developed a series of lines that added texture to the shield without overwhelming it, allowing the blue to become a defining feature.
However, the client wasn’t fully satisfied. They felt the lines resembled spikes and wanted the blue to be more prominent in the text. Taking this feedback into account, I softened the design by rounding the lines and reworking the color balance to make the firm’s name stand out. The final version aligned with the client’s vision and was approved.
